This figurine of a gardening Professor Calculus is part of a series of beautiful statuettes, designed and manufactured with a keen attention to the original detail in Hergé's drawings.
height ca. 12,5 cm
Professor Calculus features for the first time in Red Rackham's Treasure. Inventions of the hard-hearing Professor include a rocket, a small submarine and a colour tv (with some flaws), but also an ultra sound weapon. His motorised rollerskates, that he tests himself, did not become a commercial success. Captain Haddock is generally very critical of the Professor's inventions, especially concerning the pil, that, when consumed, makes alcohol indigestable.
According to Hergé, as told by him in an interview, Professor Calculus is inspired by Auguste Piccard (1884-1962), a Swiss physicist and inventor.
